Mark Jackson
Mark Jackson is a retired 37-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), known for his leadership and expertise in SWAT operations, crisis negotiation, and critical incident management. His training and expertise include patrol operations, gang enforcement, Metropolitan Division assignments, Internal Affairs investigations, and SWAT experience as both an officer and supervisor. Mark’s extensive experience includes responding to riots, natural disasters, and unusual occurrences. He has conducted the service of search and arrest warrants, stakeouts, and provided support and protection for emergency units under sniper fire or in anticipation of such gunfire. He has also supplemented U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Department of State teams to provide security for visiting dignitaries. Mark has developed tactics to address specific provocative incidents and trained personnel in their effective implementation.
Mark retired as the most senior sergeant within the LAPD SWAT Team (20D), capping off his distinguished career as a trusted leader and tactician. During his tenure, he provided leadership and administrative oversight for all SWAT functions and deployments, advising and overseeing approximately 150 incidents per year. Of these deployments, 75% were spontaneous incidents involving armed barricaded suspects, hostage rescues, and suicidal subjects, while the remaining 25% involved the service of high-risk warrants. He served as the lead supervisor in charge of the Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT), focusing on bringing critical incidents to peaceful resolutions, reducing violence, and minimizing or eliminating the need to use force.
Mark is a recognized subject matter expert in Special Weapons and Tactics, Crisis Negotiation, Hostage Rescue, High-Profile Dignitary Protection, and Command and Control of critical incidents. His exemplary service has earned him numerous honors, including the LAPD’s Medal of Valor, Police Star, multiple Police Commission Unit Citations, Major Commendations, and over one hundred Minor Commendations.
Mark earned his Associate Degree in 1988 from Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut, CA. His teaching experience spans Basic and Advanced SWAT tactics, Crisis Negotiations, and de-escalation techniques, which he has delivered across the United States and internationally. Mark remains committed to advancing public safety and fostering leadership within law enforcement.
